22 firms in England and Wales are regulated by CILEx Regulation itself rather than by the SRA. Between them they hold 48 area authorisations — and 23 of those are not covered by the compensation arrangements.

What "compensation arrangements" means, and why it is on this page

An authorised entity is a firm whose regulator is CILEx Regulation. Its fee earners may be chartered legal executives rather than solicitors, and it is entitled to do reserved legal work in the areas it is authorised for. Two protections normally travel with that: professional indemnity insurance, and a compensation fund that pays out when a firm's own dishonesty or failure leaves a client out of pocket.

They do not always both apply. CILEx Regulation's own directory states, per firm and per area, whether each is covered — and on the current directory 23 of 48 authorisations are insured but not compensated. Wills and trusts work accounts for most of them. That is a fact about your recourse if something goes wrong, published in a PDF, and this is the only page that puts it in a table.
