By number of CILEX-registered staff, this site can answer it exactly — for one profession, which is not the same as the whole firm.
The largest employer of people on the CILEX registers is Irwin Mitchell LLP, with 141. The full table of 3,097 employers is ranked the same way, and every town page ranks the firms in that town.
Two cautions. This counts chartered legal executives, CILEX practitioners and registered paralegals — not solicitors, not partners, not headcount. A firm of 400 solicitors that employs two legal executives appears here as a firm of two. And the employer is self-reported by each practitioner, so a firm's count is as current as its staff's own register entries.
